Little River Healthcare System Announces Scholarship Recipients
Rockdale, Texas (May 16, 2007)
One Thorndale, one Cameron and three Rockdale applicants have each won a $5000 Little River Healthcare System college scholarship. The scholarship is awarded annually to 5 individuals located in Milam County who are interested in continuing or pursuing a medical career.
The 2007 Little River Healthcare Scholarship winners are Camille Campbell, Charlissa Foster, Kaylee Niemtschk, Jill Morrow and Karen Watson.
The five winners competed with 24 candidates and were judged on academic achievement and potential, leadership ability, personal character, volunteerism and community service by members of the LRHS scholarship committee.
Camille Campbell, a senior at Rockdale High School, is the daughter of Rose Hardison. She is a member of National Honor Society, Business Professionals of America, Student Council, Basketball, Track and Field and Cheerleading. Camille has been involved in many community activities such as blood drives, church involvement and nursing homes. Her plans are to attend Texas A&M and then transfer to medical school to become a physician.
Charlissa Foster, a senior at Cameron Yoe High School, is the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Foster. She is a member of National Honor Society, Student Council, Volleyball, UIL One-Act-Play and Future Black Leaders. Charlissa volunteers at Ben Milam Elementary, is a substitute teacher at New Elam Missionary and has tutored pre-K through 8th grade. She will be attending the University of Houston majoring in Pre-Medicine Biology with plans to become a Pediatric Oncologist.
Kaylee Niemtschk, a senior at Thorndale High School, is the daughter of Stephen and Laurie Niemtschk. She is a member of National Honor Society, 4-H, FFA, Basketball and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Kaylee has been involved in many community activities through FFA, 4-H, National Honor Society and her church. She will be attending Texas A&M majoring in Biochemistry with an interest in Pharmacology.
Jill Morrow is currently employed at Little River Medical Clinic - Rockdale as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She has been happily married for 18 years to husband Mike, and has three children, Megan, Austin and Mason. Jill began a career in nursing because of her sincere desire to help people and believes nursing is what she was meant to do in her life. She is currently taking courses through RUE Education. Her goal is to achieve a Registered Nursing degree.
Karen Watson has been employed at Richards Memorial Hospital as a Medical Transcriptionist for 6 years. She married and raised a daughter that graduated from Baylor as an honor student. Karen is pursuing an education at Virginia College at Austin in their diagnostic medical ultrasound program. Her decision to go to college as a mature adult has been the most challenging thing she’s ever done. She believes that with her positive attitude, she can achieve anything.
