As of June, 2009 Little River Healthcare System (Rockdale) and Lakeside Hospital (Bastrop) took a bold step forward and began a sports medicine program through the Orthopedic & Physical Therapy departments.  Our desire is to provide you with the highest quality Orthopedics, PT and Athletic Training services available.  Between our Orthopedics, PT and Athletic Training services we have over 75 years of experience in treating and healing the injured athlete and the physically active person. The SportsMedicine program covers an area Cameron in the North, down to Flatonia in the South. Schools presently served are Cameron, Rockdale, Milano, Lexington, Thorndale, Thrall, Dime Box, Elgin, Bastrop, Smithville, Cornerstone/Covenant Christian and Flatonia.

The Athletic Trainer is Henry Hawkins.  Henry has been a State Licensed (Texas) and Nationally Certified Athletic Trainer (NATA) since 1977.  Henry grew up in Dallas then attended the University of Arkansas and Indiana State Univ. (Masters Degree) before returning to Texas to begin a career vast in experience and knowledge in the assessment / evaluation and the treatment & care of injuries to the physically active.  Having worked approximately 4,000 athletic/sports events in his career and performed the treatment & rehabilitation on thousands of injured, he believes he can be a valuable resource to the athletic and sports-minded individual and teams. Henry has also worked with many fine orthopedic surgeons and physical therapists; two of those being Mark Nordyke, MD and Stephen Christian, PT.

Our Orthopedist, Mark Nordyke, MD has been in Rockdale for a year and has excellent skill and vast experience.  Through-out his career he has worked with all levels of athletes, understands the demands of athletics and has a heart for athletes.

Our Physical Therapist, Stephen Christian, is well versed in all areas of physical therapy and rehabilitation.  He knows what it takes to help the athlete return to competition.

Henry Hawkins, MS, ATC, LAT – Athletic Training
Henry received his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from the University of Arkansas where he served as a student athletic trainer.  He continued his education at Indiana State University where he received his Master of Science degree specializing in Sports Medicine / Athletic Training.  Henry is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and the American College of Sports Medicine and is a certified instructor for the Texas Speed, Agility and Quickness Program.  Henry and his wife make their home in Rockdale.  He enjoys spending time with family and playing tennis in his spare time.

Stephen Christian, PT – Physical Therapy
Stephen Christian was born in Hamilton, Texas.  He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology.  He later attended the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio where he graduated with a Master of Physical Therapy degree.  Stephen is certified in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy of the Spine from the McKenzie Institute, in addition to treating all types of patients and conditions.  He is a member of the Texas Physical Therapy Association.  He enjoys bow hunting, fishing, and mountain biking.  Stephen and his family reside in Lexington.
